Magdalena Wojcieszak (Ph.D., Communication, University of Pennsylvania, and MA, Sociology, University of Warsaw) is an Associate Professor of Political Communication at Amsterdam School of Communication Research, University of Amsterdam. Prior to joining ASCoR, she worked at the IE School of Communication, IE University in Spain.
She is interested in how the changing media environment creates both opportunities and challenges for informed publics, tolerant citizenry, and responsive governance. More specifically, she examines how media use and political talk affect opinion dynamics on both individual and societal level, and how these influence perceptions, knowledge, prejudice and tolerance, among other cognitive, attitudinal and behavioral outcomes relevant to diverse societies.
Her work has appeared in the Journal of Communication, Public Opinion Quarterly, Political Communication, Communication Research, Political Psychology, New Media & Society, and the International Journal of Public Opinion Research, and other journals.
Wojcieszak is the Board Member at Large for Europe of the International Communication Association. She also serves as the Associate Editor of the International Journal of Public Opinion Research and on the editorial boards of the Journal of Communication and EastBound electronic journal
Wojcieszak has received grants from the Spanish Ministry of Science, the Spanish Sociological Research Center, and Junta de Castilla y León, Spain and awards from the American Association of Public Opinion Research, Journal of Technology, Knowledge & Society and the Polish Ministry of Education..
Applying her research to real world conflicts, she has been working with the Center for Global Communication Studies (CGCS) at the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Pennsylvania, assessing public opinion about the conflict in Darfur and examining how Iranian citizens and journalists inside and outside Iran engage with and use various media outlets and online, mobile and offline communication tools.
